Trumpet Consort

MSU Trumpet ConsortThe MSU Trumpet Consort is a trumpet ensemble that performs at departmental and community events, as well as at regional music conferences. The ensemble, which meets weekly for rehearsals, performs a concert each semester in conjunction with the other brass ensembles at MSU.

The Consort typically performs a welcoming at the department’s annual Music Discovery Day each November for visiting students who are considering careers in music. The ensemble has also performed at numerous times at The Trumpet Festival of the Southeast. Most recently the group performed at the festivals in Rome, Georgia, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Consort’s repertoire consists of contemporary compositions and arrangements of classics for trumpet ensembles ranging in size from three to twelve players. Horn Choir

MSU Horn ChoirThe MSU Horn Choir is a chamber ensemble comprised of horn players who are music majors, music minors, and majors of degree programs unrelated to music at MSU. Members of the horn choir learn how to rehearse and perform well as a horn ensemble and as a team. The group performs exciting original compositions for horn choir as well as arrangements from a wide range of styles of music, including popular and rock music, jazz, film music, and holiday music.

The horn choir performs at MSU, out in the community, and at regional and international horn symposiums and workshops. For more information about joining the MSU Horn Choir or about booking the horn choir for a performance, please email Dr. Matthew Haislip.

Trombone Troupe

Trombone TroupeThe MSU Trombone Troupe is a chamber ensemble that explores the rich tradition of trombone choir history and literature while also performing new works by established and student composers. The ensemble is open to all MSU students and Starkville community members.

Weekly rehearsals are focused on ensemble technique, musical artistry and developing individual performance skills in the context of a chamber music ensemble. We employ rotating chairs so that all members have the opportunity to play a variety of parts, from bass to alto. Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble

The MSU Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble is a chamber ensemble of low brass instrumentalists comprised of MSU students majoring and minoring in music as well as students with majors in non-music related fields. The ensemble is open to students and community members of all skill levels and backgrounds, rehearsing weekly in preparation for performance opportunities on and off-campus.

The MSU Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble rehearses and performs a variety of repertoire ranging from original compositions for tuba/euphonium ensemble to arrangements originally intended for other instrumentation. Students participating in the MSU Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble are offered the opportunity to participate in both leading and supportive musical roles regardless of their instrument or skill and are encouraged to use their experience in the group to lend to their overall musical development. Student Brass Quintets

Brass musicians at Mississippi State have the opportunity to perform in student-led quintets, coached weekly by our brass faculty. These ensembles learn standard brass quintet repertoire as well as transcriptions ranging from the Renaissance to jazz and pop favorites.
